off to texas tomorrow and probably not much time to document my little life between now and then. much to do. it will be a quick and dirty road trip for this warrior. images will be made i’m sure and i will be so happy to see my small girl and my family. and texas. already having a bit of travel anxiety. as always. and an envelopment of the nostalgia that always comes over me when i am there. a longing to stay combined with an irritation at the reality of texas. all those cars and people. *and* i must leave my poet home. sob. i will miss him. but the coming back will be much easier. i saw a huge red-tail hawk on campus this morning. up close.

much to do. much to do…

bye!

walking around observing things and making photos is sort of an addictive activity, like exercise. endorphins are released. when you don’t do it, you become rather cranky. as i have been this past couple of weeks. funny. after playing with film and toy cameras, using a digital can seem rather ho-hum. until one wanders to a new neighborhood. with new (and desperate) eyes. on a finally-warmish day with beautiful light.

it was a good weekend for a working weekend. friday i walked home from the office in yet another snowfall. this one was beautiful. such a treat. i can’t remember dinner, neither of us have been very interested in cooking lately, but i’m sure we had something. mostly i worked. up saturday morning. worked. laundry. downtown for India Palace and some windowshopping. more work. haircut. a little bread and cheese and olive for dinner. work. a taiwanese movie “Three Times”. sleep. work. some errands. more work. La Parilla shrimp tacos. a long wander with the camera. BLUEBIRDS. home. work. popcorn. work. sleep eventually. my life is a bland sweet pudding lately. not meaning joyless or dull. just calm. so comforting.

there is really not much to write about this week. cold. plodding. cold. plodding. and so on. the day of the Big Snow (for us, anyway), i dawdled about going out, then bundled up, put the jamcam in my pocket, grabbed the snow shovel and made a great windy path down our walks, as my poet taught me last snowfall. we don’t walk the straight and narrow but prefer the meandering and curious path. then i set off at a leisurely pace.

this week has not been as awful as the week of the ice, but still, great focus is required for the mile up the hill and the mile down every day. no iPod, no camera (except that first day), no daydreaming. just consciousness. it is a pretty good exercise and i have not fallen down this week at all! i stay mostly warm in my perfect black parka and my wonderful wool hat with ear flaps and fleece lining and my crappy purple boots from LLBean (they already have a tear in the seam! poorly made!). my face is cold though, and if there is wind, like this morning, my thighs! ouch! freezer burn on the meat!

yesterday i pulled a 3 foot icicle from a sign to play sword with on the way home. i wrote love notes to my poet in the smooth snow by the sidewalks. he walks the same way i do to and from work (at different times). i wonder if he will see them?

i can’t even remember what i have written this week. it is all fuzz. sunday was a GREAT day in the studio. monday i acquired a sewing machine. which is set up but not otherwise touched. the other days were too cold to even go into the studio, so i read books instead. with a blanket. now it is the working weekend and i hope that room gets warmer! next week i’m going to texas. margaret!!!!!!!

:: pome :: from a set of pale things in progress.

ancient book pages in various languages, illustrated spanish dictionary, gesso, jamcam images of local architecture transferred to additional pages, clippings, pearl buttons, beeswax, on 8″ x 8″ canvas board.

sunday was a fairly busy day in the studio. it has been very very cold.

heart.jpg

once hallmark and corporations take over holidays
they are pretty much over for me.

but i *do* love the heart shape, balanced and curving.
it is one of my favorite objects to capture.
and share.
