because of my weather terror, inducing me to leave on Tuesday night, rather than wait until Wednesday morning, i had a head start - and allowed myself the luxury of making TWO. yes. TWO. photo stops on the way to Fredericksburg TX. one at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells (most of the images are oddly over-exposed), one in the tiny town of Hico Texas. it was WONDERFUL!! i hope you will go see, too.

Great photos!
“They” say Hico (don’t you love the pronunciation? Almost as good as It-ly) will be the next Fredericksburg. You could get in on the ground floor!

thank you all!
debra, you *must* stop - definitely worth it. and be sure to go into the Koffee Kup - if for no other reason, to look at the height of the meringue on their pies. TERRIFYING! (-:
jennifer, i also heard that Hico was the new F-burg, but … now i’m not sure if they will be able to get off the ground. lots of the buildings seemed to be halted in the midst of restoration (maybe it was just the holidays), there were lots of For Sale and For Lease signs. i went into Room No. 5, which was my favorite when it was in F-burg and everything was half-price. yes. closing. forever. the woman in the shop said that up until 4 or 5 months ago, people were still flocking from the Dallas area, but it was now very very slow. sigh … still … if i could … i just MIGHT! i would hate to see the place get too floofy, but i hate to see it die, too.

What a bummer. Guess I’d better drive over and see. I haven’t been there in a while.
I had high hopes–F-burg has gotten so, well, China-imports-like, compared to the old days. I thought Hico might provide a new start.
Good time to get in cheap, though, I guess. Have you been to Glen Rose?
