so i should post another gloomy picture.
the Hertz guy just called and said i needed to come back in and fill out an accident report. huh? i explained to him (again), that there was a mechanical problem, not an accident, and that i felt more comfortable exchanging for a different vehicle last week. but no. he said i had an accident and “ruined a wheel”, that when they went to the airport to switch out the car, that the car was “undriveable”. and clearly made it obvious that it was all my fault. i am just flipped out. partly because i was driving a car on the interstate that indeed *was* that bad, but mostly because they are automatically assuming that i am in the wrong. jesus. the only wrong thing i did was to be too wimpy and busy to take that wiggly car back right away, even though they were only open for 15 more minutes. i was really afraid they would not have another car for me and they were of course not open on t-giving. with poor mechanical knowledge of cars anyway, for all i knew, there was nothing really wrong. it just didn’t seem good enough for a car i was paying $180 to drive.
so do i have any rights? at the airport, they did not come out to check in the car, just told me to park it and leave the keys in the car. i did. (another “wrong” thing, i realize). they also did not check out the car i took out, just gave me the keys and told me the stall #. that was weird, because my Hertz guys always do a walkaround. am i going to be in some kind of trouble now? is their word better than mine? i am very nervous. i notice that my co-dependency and sense of guilt are full-blown. i actually feel like a Bad Person. for NOTHING. beyond stupidity.
and also very sad. i do not engage in very much commerce, and i work hard to establish business relations and i am very loyal. we only have 2 car rental places here and i have worked with Hertz for almost 8 years. the guys know me when i call (well, they *did*, the franchise has just been taken over by the corporation and they fired all the local guys) and give me fair deals and i have a good customer reputation. the other rental place i have used a few times, Enterprise, well … ick … they lock up my credit card with a huge deposit, then give me a stinky smoky car with no cruise control. i have often been treated like a lowlife there and now avoid the place. so now what? how will i get to Texas next month? i am very sad. very.
